This department is responsible for maintenance of the streets, water mains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers. Maintenance of the streets includes: patching potholes, utility patches, asphalt overlays, snow removal and alley maintenance. Other duties include painting school crossings, traffic lines, parking lanes and sign maintenance.
This department is also responsible for the water distribution system. Maintenance of this system includes repairing water main leaks, fire hydrants, valves, leak detection and making locations on these lines and curb boxes.
There are approximately 63-miles of streets, 67-miles of water mains, 425-fire hydrants and 80-miles of sanitary sewer to maintain.
The Street Department is also responsible for is mosquito control, which occurs once every two weeks from Memorial weekend through the end of September, assistance with debris clean-up after storms and maintenance of most of the city’s equipment. |
